Professional Assistant

I have begun uploading some of my photos to a stock photography site, and had this idea that might be a little marketable from our style of photography. We picked up some props to make the outfit, and shot it in a local fountain.
We thought that we might not get the shoot in because there was a local event going on at the fountain that day. They were rehearsing, and so we were able to get our shoot in, between sets. The rehearsals had drawn quite a crowd that day so we ended up with a lot more of an audience than we are used to, but everyone was quite interested in what we were doing. Some even got their own cameras out themselves and took a few pictures of their own…
We have a lot of really good photos from this set, too many for me to choose which I would share publically so I put a lot of them here. Enjoy!

Creek Bride…Then and Now…

MJ| October 15, 2008 10:21 am

So in our previous post we showed you our TTD photos of Ellie in the creek in her wedding dress from last year. There were some fundamental problems with that set and we wanted to do it again. This time we took a few members from our camera club with us for an outing. We had a great time. The “guest” photographers were amazed at Ellie’s bravery, and ability to withstand the cold water and just generally being uncomfortable for such long periods of time. She’s becoming a pro and she doesn’t even realize it..but she was only beginning to show them her professionalism. More on that later…..
This is one of our favorite locations because there is both deep and shallow water, and in the afternoon the lighting is pretty diffused because the area is so overgrown with trees. At times it can create a dappling effect which can be a challenge, but can also lend interest to some photos. The constant changing between shade and direct sunlight can create white balance problems though as can be seen in some of these photos. ….what can I say…still learning!
These are some of my favorite Trash the Dress photos that we’ve done so far..enjoy!

Wedding Dress in the Creek

MJ| October 8, 2008 10:38 am

This was our first ever Trash the Dress session. Ellie was still very phobic about deep murky water and was very nervous about stepping into water that she could not see the bottom, in addition the water was ice cold. She was very brave and overcame these fears to get what turned out to be our best photo shoot at the time. Some of my favorite photos come from this set.
We’ve shot several Trash the Dress sessions since this shoot. Many of them in this particular dress..testament to the fact that the Trashing the Dress doesn’t really mean the dress has to be trashed…it is getting a little worse for wear though having been in a swamp, and worse…but I’ll save that for another day…you have not seen that set yet!

Swamp Bride

I saw something like this done on a Trash the Dress site once and always thought it would be cool to give it a try. Elle has her phobias, (bugs, spiders, creepy crawlies, dirty or cloudy water etc) and so I figured that I would likely never have an opportunity to shoot something like this unless I was hired to do it.

In driving around I had seen several places where the duckweed was rampant and we were talking about it with another photographer friend when Ellie surprised me by saying if the conditions were right she might be willing to give it a try…so we discussed it, and set it up, and shot it yesterday in spite of sporadic rain showers. Ellie did really well, handled the gooey, slimy water like a pro, and we got some pretty good pictures, I think. She really knows how to make an ugly old swamp beautiful!

I was using another borrowed camera and WOW do I like the results. I think I’ll be upgrading soon! These were shot using a Canon Rebel XSI and a Canon 50mm Prime lens.
